A killer stabs the wrong man and slays a presidential candidate, hurling the Rev. Emilio, a politically inexperienced but adroit VP, into the spotlight.

Though Remigio confesses, no one believes the case is that simple. In the meantime, Emilio struggles with both his wife and God about his next step.

After Badajoz's murder, Rubén, his advisor, is convinced Emilio is the only one who can win the elections. Julio's conversion is detailed in flashbacks.

Julio and Rubén make a deal. When Emilio commits to running for president, Elena balks. The district attorney is pressured to resolve the case.

Remigio sends for Tadeo and tasks him with a rescue mission. The district attorney struggles to find a legal way to take the next step. Ana helps Julio.

Rubén has worked for powerful politicians and interests, so he wields his influence and connections to try to kick Julio out of Emilio's inner circle.

As Jonathan and Tadeo prepare to flee, Julio learns the truth but is stunned by Rubén's reaction. Meanwhile, Elena makes a move to save the church.

To launch the new presidential ticket, Rubén gets almost everything lined up: an explosive news story, blackmail, murder. But Emilio has his own ideas.
