Season 5

It's business as usual, in Ward, as Bron heads off to help Lyle through his ""opening night"" nerves. But the best laid plans go horribly wrong when an earthquake set of events, including a train disaster in which one of the team from Ward 17 dies.

Terri breaks down and confesses her feelings to Mitch, Rebecca and Scott argue about how he performed on the job at the train disaster, but it rapidly turns into a passionate love scene. Jared discovers his love affair with Kylie could be on the rocks.

Terri discovers Bron isn't coping with the tragic loss of Lyle, and Nelson is harbouring a dark and personal secret that unexpectedly reveals itself.

When a patient in Jared's care leaps off the balancy of Ward 17, Jared feels enormous guilt and he knows he will most likely cop the blame. The shocked staff of Ward 17 needs a debriefing and Terri's management of the ward is also questioned.

Rumours circulate Ward 17 that Von is having an affair with one of her patients. Terri is placed in difficult position when Mitch admits Rose's mother, Victoria, with a suspected heart condition.

Rumours that Mitch and Terri are having an affair run wild throughout Ward 17 and, in order to protect Terri from the gossip, Mitch thinks about taking a post to another hospital.

Von and Mitch are shocked when their patient reveals his dying secret - he got terminal radiation posioning inside from All Saints hospital. Bron's emotional farewell end with Ben getting more than he bargained for.

Mitch and Rose must decide their future - stay together or divorce? Mitch tells Terri he has made the difficult decision on whether or not he'll divorce Rose.

Mitch and Rose finally decide whether to save their marriage or go seperate ways. Nelson nurses a formidable, fiercely intelligent ex Head Mistress, who gives him hell. Von and Luke treat an epileptic woman who refuses the drugs that will control her seizures.

Paula is assigned to keep a patient happy but is subjected to sexual harassment, and later accused of accepting money. Luke first day back in surgery nearly ends in disaster.

Rose makes a surprise visit to ward 17 to deliver a news bombshell to Terri. Terri and the team look on in horror and disbelief as Mitch hesitates to save his patient's life. Mitch is torn between his duty and his heart as his patient doesn't want to live. Mitch and Terri confront their conflicting notions of love, when an older couple decide to die together.

The rumour mill switches to overdrive when Jared catches Matt and Scott in bed together - but, through the day, Matt has a sad reunion with an ex-girlfriend, while Rebecca decides to save Scott's reputation.

When amnesia patient Ross awakes, he tells Paula he has just had a shocking recollection of what he did to his children. Jared and Kylie finally come to loggerheads over a melanoma patient when a very jealous Jared suspects Kylie and Luke are an item.

Mitch finds that he is up against formidable opposition, with his proposal to set up a herion detox centre and puts Terri offside with his desperate actions. Von makes an unusual discovery on a patient convinced he is 'hexed' by his ex-girlfriend.

Nelson calls a strike in Ward 17 which puts everyone under pressure; a pressure which eventually proves to be intolerable and results in a death, and the resignation of Jared. Mitch cops the wrath of a strung out Terri, who gives him an earful for abusing his staff, and Mitch attacks Paula, accussing her of jeopardising a patient's life.

Terri is forced to face her ultimate fear - losing her true love Mitch. When Mitch comes into contact with a possible Ebola Virus patient, he and another doctor quarantined along with the patient. Fearing for Mitch's life and unalbe to reach him, Terri becomes increasingly distracted from her work.

Lovemaking has occuppied Mitch & Terri's night, and Terri decides to call in sick. Meanwhile, Nelson, acting NUM in Terri's absence, and eager to perform well, urges the others to a team effort. Bron returns from England to bizarre welcome from Jared & Scott who fued over Jared's interference with Scott's study.

Luke finds out there's a new Coronial Inquiry into the death of Dawn (Ma) O'Connell, Luke knows more than he's prepared to admit and it could ruin him and his family forever. The presence of the Coroner's Investigating Officer, creates ripples in the ward as, one by one, the staff are interviewed. Jared is going for a job interview. Or is he?

Terri loses her respect for Luke when the coroner's inquest into Ma O'Connell's death. Bron feels preesured to confess to Ben during her time overseas she was unfaithful to him. Victoria arrives to tell Mitch that Rose has decided to fight for full custody.

Mitch and Terri part company for a while as the pressure over the custody battle for Lucy pushes them to the brink. After rescuing a young boy from a treacherous situation, Von realises that he has no idea how to play games or have fun and decides to teach him. Jared makes a surprise visit to Ward 17. Rebecca starts to question her career as an ambulance officer.

Bron's overseas affair with another man is coming back to haunt her. Paula's mother is in a car accident with Paula's son Max, and she has to face the fact that Max has problem. Rebecca's accidental overdose of Paula's mother pushes her to resign.

On the verge of opening his repid induction clinic, Mitch is visited by his cousin Paul. The visit gives Terri a new insight into the childhood episode that shaped Mitch's life - the death of his sister Lucy. Mitch has to deal with a very determined Rebecca who is desperate to join the detox clinic's staff.

Mitch's world is falling apart when Rose has delivered a news bombshell that baby Lucy is not his daughter. Terri seems distant, unsupportive and it looks like she's returning to the religious order. Luke's prowess as a physician and is put to the test when he has to find a medical solution for a Tourette's sufferer.

Mitch makes a decision to tack a NDA test and fight for custody for Lucy. It's also the first day for treatment in his new Detox Clinic. Von is attacked by Adam because of her interference with his horron addicted mum.

It's crunch time for Bron as she finally plans to tell her fiance', Ben, that she had an affair with another man. A dark shadow emerges over their marriage. Terri's wish for more romance in her relationship gives Mitch the cheeky idea to plan her a surprise romantic dinner - in her office.

Terri can't hide the news from Mitch any longer... she is pregnant and unsure of how Mitch is going to take the surprise. With only seven days until their wedding, Bron is desperate to repair her relationship but delivers an unexpected announcement. Nelson has hots for the new Ward 17 doctor Charlotte, and asks her out on a date which turns into a shocking revelation.

With Mitch's cousin Paul is confronted in pain of watching his lover, Hannah trapped in a nightmare of a permanent comatose state, he is determined to become her full time carer. But her parents have other ideas. Paula sees a glimmer of hope that Max's delinquent father Michael will become involved in his life after saving a little boy from a car fire.

Paula is forced to consider medicating her son Max to ease his behavioural problems, after he hijacks an ambulace. With their first baby on the way, Terri and Mitch decide it's time to move in together... and they soon find the perfect home.

Jared's personal crusade to save herion addicts living in the underground take a tragic turn when he loses one to an overdose. Kylie realises how empty her life outside work is when she treats a man completely at peace with the fact that he is dying of cancer.

Jared is ambushed and sexually assaulted. Terri knows the sex of the baby - and Mitch will bribe anyone to know too. Dr Warwick Ellies cuts himself during an operation an a transsexual patient and is convinced that he might have been exposed to HIV.

A young ballet dancer, divides the Ward when Paula wants to use restrains after she becomes violent, as a result of suffering withdrawals from pain killing medication. Nelson refuses to allow it whilst he is in charge and clashes with Paula. Von struggles to convince Adam that he needs to give his mother Gina another chance.

A visit from Terri's sister could have tragic consequences. Terri is rushed to hospital and everyony prays that the baby will be okay. Bron confronts Paula - accusing her of dating ex-fiance Ben.

Bron in a jealous rage, she decides to do something that will shock Ben and everyone else in Ward 17. Charlotte's patient want her to make a life or death decision on her behalf.

Another scare for Terri... will she and the baby be OK? A fire at the clinic puts Mitch's professional future in jeopardy. Bron scores an unexpected promotion that ruffles Nelson's feathers.

Jared is empowered when he realises he was not to blame for his own sexual assault. Bron finally believes she face her own attacker without felling a victim. Mitch, after desperately trying to keep his clinic afloat finally loses the battle and his power base. Ben is starting to feel trapped by Paula's interest in him.

Mitch finds out - the hard way - that getting drunk makes more problems, not solves them, when he is arrested for assault. Matt is accused of molestation, and sees it as a sign to leave the ward. Charlotte's broken heart is revealed when another doctor's husband is admitted to the ward.

Just when his mother looks like she has her life back in order, Adam Finch is found unconscious after a drug overdose, throwing Von into turmoil. Terri returns home to find Mitch in a state of disrepair and she sets about getting him back on the rails.

Rebecca and Scott get caught in the crossfire of a bikie war. Mitch charges to Terri's rescue, and is almost killed in the process. A woman with a long list of unrelated symptoms is ear bashing everybody, and Von finds the reason her young patient is withdrawn and self-mutilating is because he has a hearing problem.

Ben and Bron are taken hostage by a paranoid schizophrenic while his mother is admitted with mercury poisoning. When a sixty-five year old man has a massive stroke Luke sees an opportunity for a young woman to get the lung transplant she needs. But the man's wife resists turning off his life support. What is the hold her husband has on her and why does she insist on holding his body hostage? Mitch discovers that Rose is taking him for everything in the divorce settlement.

Terri's ethics are put on the line. Von fights to hold a family together. Ben's confused over his feelings for Bron and Paula's feeling the cold. When Ian Neal escapes custody it has tragic repercussions for Ben. Charlotte suggests a radical treatment.

Paula and Bron are both on hand when Ben returns to Ward 17, recovering from his stab wounds. Luke is disgusted when Craybrook reappears at All Saints as a teaching consultant. Nelson and Rebecca run a bed allocations scam to avoid chronic care patients. Jared and Kylie work together on her last day to solve a patient's kidney problems, and end up solving Jared's problem too. Scott's suspicions are confirmed about his new temporary partner.

Nelson is offered a promotion but the day doesn't turn out the way he'd hoped when a highly charged ethical dilemma presents itself. His day is further complicated by the demands of a mystery woman. Mitch is rattled when Rose makes a small but unexpected appearance, and is then confused by a puzzling case that Charlotte may hold the key to. Mitch becomes worried that he is no longer performing up to standard. Bron, who is made 2IC for the day, is trying to smooth the waters with Paula but only succeeds in making things worse - while Ben's slow recovery in ICU is frustrating Bron, who wants to work through their problems.

An elderly patient has some startling bad memories. Terri and Mitch struggle to come to terms with the reappearance of Rose. Ben has some tough explaining to do. Scott finds his problem with his new partner worsening. Nelson nurses a patient who brings up bad memories for him.
