In the midst of an economic crisis, the PRI is experiencing its biggest fracture: a group of PRI members are challenging the party's long-standing practices and facing off against Carlos Salinas de Gortari in a historic election that will forever divide Mexico's political landscape.

Carlos Salinas seeks to control the PRI and secure his succession, but internal rivalries and betrayals lead to Colosio's assassination, unleashing a crisis that shakes the country and causes the PRI's political system to implode.

Colosio's assassination shook the PRI. With no options, they elected Ernesto Zedillo, a candidate from outside the party who faced a severe economic crisis and widespread social discontent that led them to lose the presidency for the first time in 70 years.

Peña Nieto comes to power amidst the spotlight, reforms, and a soap opera-like marriage. But Ayotzinapa and the White House are rekindling the corruption that destroys the myth of the "new PRI," leaving it without direction for the 2018 and 2024 elections.
