The distance between Resolute in northern Canada and the magnetic North Pole at Ellef Ringnes Island is 450 miles. It's a journey across sea ice and unforgiving mountainous terrain where temperatures can drop to minus 65ºC - a temperature at which exposed skin can freeze in less than 30 seconds. Only fools would attempt such a journey. So Jeremy and James are attempting to do it in the now legendary Toyota Hilux and Richard hopes to make it on a sled pulled by ten Canadian Inuit dogs. The Top Gear team of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond decided, for Sport Relief, to impersonate and belittle the show Ground Force, and provide a garden makeover to the garden of one of Britain's sporting legends, namely Steve Redgrave. Helping them was a team of "Foreign Nationals", and on hand to provide advice on Redgrave's tastes was his wife, Ann Redgrave, who was erroneously addressed and referred to as "Lady Ann" rather than the proper "Lady Redgrave".

Top Gear sets out on a high-altitude voyage from Kathmandu, capital of Nepal, to the Forbidden City of Lo Manthang, a secretive kingdom perched high on the Tibetan plateau, on the far side of the Himalayas. It is a five-day expedition through the highest mountains, deepest gorges and harshest terrain on the planet. Part one includes the team building trains out of cars which they subsequently race, attempting to outrun the Stig in a police car while driving an industrial van and destroying houses with different military equipment.

Part two includes the boys attempting to beat the train-based food delivery system in India. They later try their hand at playing with life-sized remote control cars, and James gets himself concussed in the Middle East. As if this weren't enough, we look back at the never ending attempts to destroy a Toyota Hilux that proved pointless.
